Classic Parts
Restoring vintage and classic bikes requires classic components. We search for older components new and used to enable the enthusiasts to restore their prized possessions. Whether it's a French thread bottom bracket for your 1970 Peugeot or odd-sized tires and tubes for your Moulton, we just might have it.
Spécialités TA
Tradition and Advanced Technology
Few, if any, bicycle parts makers blend the past and present quite like TA. The company that pioneered alloy chainwheels in 1947 still produces parts for its cranksets that are out of another era. But their current generations of cranks and chainwheels for Shimano and Campagnolo cranksets are used by several top professional teams.
TA cranks and chainwheels, past and present, span an unparalleled range of sizes. Crank arms start at 150 mm for the short rider and go up to 185 mm for near giants. Unusually large chainwheels can be made to special order. Bicycle Specialties large stock of TA parts is probably without rival in North America. As well, we regularly receive direct shipments from the factory in Northern France.
By the way, in case you're curious, TA stands for ``traction avant,'' an ill advised front wheel bicycle drive system the company's founder Georges Navet developed just after the Second World War but never (perhaps thankfully) brought to market.
TA Pro 5 Pin cranks with Cyclo-Touriste chainwheels
|
This crank is in stock and we have a very good selection of chainrings and bottom brackets to make it work. single $225 CAD |
At the end of 2005, after 45 years of continuous production, TA discontinued the manufacture of these cranks. They had been in production since the sixties and were undoubtedly the most popular choice for good quality touring and randonneur bikes. However they were not totally compatible with the indexed drive trains introduced by Campagnolo and Shimano. The decision to cease production brought a great outcry from the crankset’s fans around the World. In response to the outcry TA have recently started making the cranks available again. We have a limited number in stock and are expecting the full range of lengths again in the near future
TA is still producing the Cyclo-Touriste chainrings although the range
of sizes has been drastically reduced. We have a good stock including a
number of sizes no longer available from TA. Please contact us with
your requirements.
